Mark Knopfler in Rio : a tribute to my guitar hero 64th birthday

          April 5, 2001

I was very nervous and anxious. I ate too much chocolate and ice cream.  Finally, my guitar hero was going to play in Rio de Janeiro. As soon as my brother came home, he, I and my maid went to Mark concert venue.
I will never forget the moment I saw Mark’s precious and magic guitars near the stage. My seat was far from the stage. But I was glad and nervous because I was going to see Mark playing live for the first time. I realized that my teenage dream was about to come true.
When the concert begun and Mark started playing Calling Elvis, my heart was beating fast. But when the band played Walk of live, my favourite Dire Straits song, it was a big thrill to me. I thought I was going to cry. My eyes were full of tears. I had to sing along with Mark and the crowd to try to calm down.
Who’s Your Baby Now, Rudiger, What It Is and Sailing to Philadelphia are very special songs and it was so nice to listen to them. I shouted when Mark started playing every song.
Mark played Romeo and Juliet beautifully as usual. When Knopfler played Sultans of Swing I and the crowd went very very crazy. We were amazed! It was a fascinating and magical moment I will never forget even when I am an old lady! I was almost voiceless at this time. It was the concert peak.
The new song Pyroman astonished everybody. It was a thrill to listen to the epic and wonderful Telegraph Road.
Knopfler played a different Money for Nothing version, which surprised everybody. Brothers in Arms is always a beautiful, sad and touching song. If I am not mistaken, Mark ended the concert with Wag the Dog.
The crowd shouted: “Knopfler! Knopfler! Knopfler!”
I was very excited. I was in heaven. Mark’s concert in Rio was my 25th birthday present. I will never forget the best night of my live. Thank you for having taken me to Knopfler concert in Rio de Janeiro, my brother!

Thank you very very very much for your wonderful songs and this fantastic concert in Rio, Mark Knopfler. I hope you can come back to Brazil next time.  Happy Birthday and Best Wishes!
